Coronavirus in the Workplace

By Albany Office Supplies

The last few months have caused a lot of panic, not only when it comes to our personal lives, but also when it comes to the workplace. While some have always had the option to work remotely, others have recently re-opened their businesses and returned back to their workplaces after many months off. Whether in the workplace or at home, it is our responsibility to make sure we are safe taking every precautionary measure, adhering to government guidelines, using PPE correctly by sanitising and using cleaning products frequently.

When it comes to a safe workplace, it is a team effort to make sure the office area is up to standard. Make sure to keep yourself and your colleagues well informed when it comes to the latest news on Coronavirus with national news channels such as RTÉ News and Virgin Media. The latest topics are updated almost hourly including live streams of important news about quarantine or lockdowns and other safety measures through TV, online or radio.

When it comes to personal safety to prevent the spread of germs and viruses, make sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, adhere to the social distancing rule at all times staying 2m away from colleagues, remembering to avoid physical contact like handshakes and hugs etc. Use the hand-sanitizers provided and wipe surfaces with anti-bacterial wipes and sprays. Sanitise door knobs, light switches, keyboards, phones, mobile phones, tables, fridge doors, remotes and anything that staff or customers may be touching.

It is important that all employees understand the standard measures and procedures. For business owners; it is vital that all employees understand procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Send regular emails to staff with the guidelines but also include encouraging words at this time so they know the organisation is here for them during the current situation.

Team members must stay home if they are feeling unwell and showing any symptoms of Coronavirus. If an employee starts to feel unwell while at work they must follow company procedures, go home immediately, consult with their doctor and get tested if advised to do so.

Here at Albany Supplies, we stock PPE equipment like masks, industrial-size cleaners and hand-soaps, sanitisers, soap dispensers and more. We advise you stock up on anti-bacterial wipes and sanisting products to ensure your workplace stays COVID19-free.

Always have a plan in case of an emergency so there is a clear guide to follow in case someone at the workplace needs to be immediately isolated or falls sick during their work hours. Make the emergency plan visible for all employees. Staff need to feel safe so that they can perform their best. Provide a safe space for employees so they know that management understands the pressures of their new working environment.

Lastly - always remind members in the organisation that are doing their best at this time. Make sure staff are supported by remaining positive and focus on daily tasks while also implementing the new changes into daily routine to prevent exposure from Covid-19.
